Everloop is a social network designed specifically for children. The site gives children and their parents a safe place to interact online. Everloop encourages social skill development by providing young internet users with a place to interact. The site also rewards its users for learning how to by socially fluent online. Parents can set up alerts so they stay aware of Everloop activity and what their child is doing. The website also maintains a very strict security policy to ensure that they know who is using Everloop. Parents are asked to provide credit card information to verify their identity and to make sure that each child on Everloop has been given permission by a parent or guardian. The website has also implemented a more sophisticated security system that doesn’t only look for red flagged keywords but identifies patterns to prevent bad behavior from occurring. Everloop also employs a team of real people trained to watch for the early signs of a problematic user.Show more screenshots »
Everloop was created to give children a place to socialize and improve their social skills. The website goes above and beyond in terms of security measures and user monitoring. The first private beta launch was announced in November of 2009. Today, Everloop offers many reassuring features parents can appreciate. It has raised $3,1 million $3.1 million from vFormation, Band of Angels, Envoi Ventures, and other investors.
There are quite a few social networks intended for younger users that have been popping up all over the web. Everloop can be added to that list, but many parents may put it closer to the top than the rest. While other similar social networks perform credit card verification, Everloop takes even more steps to ensure its users’ safety. Real people monitor the community and the site also uses a sophisticated pattern recognition system to identify troublemakers before they become a serious issue. Everloop encourages users to develop their social skills in a way that is positive and healthy.
The appearance of Everloop is another reason some users may find it more appealing (as well as their parents). Compared to other children’s social networks, Everloop has a more mature appearance. The site still incorporates fun elements, such as images of smiling children, but the blue and white color scheme remains rather low key. The stylish, intertwined loops of the Everloop logo also compliment the site. Older children may appreciate the mature appearance over the hand drawn, rainbow color design of other, similar websites.
A new user can join the Everloop community by clicking the blue and white “Create Your Profile” button in the lower, right hand corner of the homepage. The user is asked to provide their desired screen name and choose an avatar from a large list provided. After doing so, the user can click the maroon “Next Step” button. The following page provides the user with their display name and Everloop email address. The user must have a parent present to provide their email address before choosing a password and entering their date of birth and gender. The child can add their email address if they have one they are permitted to add, but this is not a requirement. The following page presents the user with the three main rules of the site before giving them access to their account dashboard. A note advises the young user that certain features will be restricted until their parent confirms the account.
All children and their parents are welcome to join the Everloop community for free. There are no subscription fees or other charges for doing so. The site does offer a credit system that allows users to purchase virtual badges and items using EverCredits which are bought with real money. The child can submit a request for more EverCredits (which is sent to their parents). The child can choose the quantity and add a note if they like (which the site advises them to remember their manners when asking). 100 EverCredits costs approximately $1. Users are also given the opportunity to earn EverCredits by doing things on the site, like creating groups.
Everloop is a great social network for parents with children. The site seems geared more towards older children, with its slightly more mature appearance and design. Parents can feel confident with the website’s many layers of protection that will keep their child safe while they participate in the community.
